Garden and Woodlands

The garden is thoughtfully laid out to blend in seamlessly with its wonderful natural surroundings.  It is in a hollow with Bannisdale Beck curving around the house, flanked by a wooded bank and several acres of woodland.

The gardens contain many exquisite plantings with hundreds of beautiful sights to be enjoyed through-out the year, as the woodland and garden landscape changes seasonally.

Birds  and Wildlife

The grounds are always a hive of activity for birds and wildlife. Hare, Deer and a wonderful range of other wildlife enjoy the grounds and river.

There are often over 20 birds around the feeding station, which is in view of the Dining Room.  Nuthatch, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Blue Tit,Great tit, Long tailed tit, Chaffinch, Robin, Kingfisher, Wren, Pied Wagtail, Grey wagtail, Thrush, Blackbird, Cuckoo and many other birds are frequently seen, including Dippers feeding in the river.

The Woodpeckers can often be heard in the trees, with frequent clumsy attempts to navigate the bird table and a magnificent pheasant has taken to strutting around “his” domain.
